Mindfulness without mythology.
Nearly every meditation app assumes you're on a spiritual journey. They come packaged with chakras, energy fields, cosmic intentions, and the quiet suggestion that stillness requires belief in something beyond the evidence. For a lot of people, that packaging is the reason they never stuck with meditation in the first place.
Heathen is the meditation app for the rest of us — atheists, agnostics, humanists, skeptics, and the plainly curious. The science of attention, breath, and calm is real and well-studied. None of it requires the supernatural. Heathen keeps the practice and drops the mysticism.
"Heathen" is a reclaimed slur, and we mean it as a compliment. It was once an insult for anyone outside the faith. We wear it as a badge of honor. The tagline — mindfulness without mythology — is a deliberate jab at what this app is not. We're not trying to be the gentle, universally inoffensive option. Every other meditation app already is. Heathen is for people who chose it because it doesn't soften that.
A year of secular philosophy, delivered a day at a time: daily quotes and readings drawn from Stoics, existentialists, scientists, and secular humanists — Seneca, Sagan, Camus, Hitchens, Dawkins, and more. Atheist-specific affirmations that celebrate reason and human agency, not divine validation. Guided meditations across Focus, Calm, Sleep, Gratitude, Stoicism, Meaning, and Wonder. Structured multi-day programs like Stoic Week. A private journal with mood tracking. And ambient soundscapes for winding down.
Heathen requires no account and no login. Everything — your journal, your history, your streak — lives on your device and never touches a server. There's no tracking, no ads, and nothing to sign up for. See the privacy policy for the full detail.
Heathen is built by Adam Rowe, an independent developer. It's free to download, with an optional subscription that supports continued development. Questions, ideas, or bugs are welcome on GitHub.
